Reyes Returns

Jason Reyes – the Quarterback who took two leagues by storm by leading the Rebels to a championship game in the spring of 2006, and nearly doing the same in the fall of the same year, returns for another run at a title.
Reyes, who was in Florida for 2007, has been working out with the New York Spartans Semi Pro program – members of the Gridiron Elite. Jason is in a competition for the starting QB position with another former Rebel quarterback, Frank Rue, Jr. The Spartans are scheduled to participate in the first Gridiron Elite Football tournament being played at Evander Childs High School. Reyes is expected to play with the Spartans in the spring, and return to compete for the fall QB position with the Rebels Jr. pro team.
HC Baxter, of the Jr Pro division, states “Jason is a natural leader, with qualitites that cannot be taught at the QB position. Working with the Spartans will be a great way to shed the rust off of his game, and will make him ready to run at the ECFL title this fall.”
Reyes will compete in Rebel camp with QB Kaliph Daley, who is slotted to start at the position for the Rebels in the fall. Baxter states “they are both good athletes that bring interesting qualities to our offense. The competition should be a good one to watch, but whoever earns the job, will be taking our team to the title game.”
Defensive Coordinatior Kevin Pryor though is pushing for Daley to remain on the defensive side of the ball, leaving Reyes as the starting QB. “Jason has a stronger arm. I have seen this kid put the ball on a dime at 70 yards. Not many kids can do that at this level.”
Can Reyes compete? Is Daley up to the challenge of earning his starting job? Will Daley be moved back to a starting DB, leaving Reyes as the starter?
Stay Tuned!!!

Sullivan has played for the Rebels since 2004, one of the few that graduated from our Intermediate team to Jr. Pro team. He has always been a consistent performer. He has been recognized for his athletic and academic prowess. In his Rebel career, Brandon has won awards as a Most Valuable Player, All Star Regcognition in two leagues, and has also won the highest award we give – the Power and Pride and Pride trophy. 2007 was Brandon’s final season as an active Rebel, as he now will attend SUNY Maritime and play football for the Privateers. We wish this young man well in all his future endeavors. He embodies all the qualities that all Bronx Rebel football players should aspire to, but more importantly, we have watched him grow up to be a quality young man. One that we are glad to count as a Rebel Alumn. We love you Brandon!! Good Luck in your future endeavors.
Sullivan’s jersey will be retired at the upcoming Rebel football banquet

The East All Stars – consisting of the Bronx Rebels, NYC Gators, Bronx County Cardinals and Morrisania Invaders put on a defensive show at the second ECFL All Star Game.
Coach Ray from the Rebels called the offense, while Coach Joe from the Invaders called the Defense. Coach Jay from the Cardinals called Special Teams, while Coach D from the Gators gave incredible assistance on both sides of the ball. While the offense did score two touchdowns that were called back due to penalties, the East’s defense was incredible to witness – holding the West All-Stars scoreless until well after the four minute warning in the fourth quarter. With thirty seconds left in the game, the East scored on a perfect fade route to the end zone. The game ended in a seven all tie.
Rebels contributed on both sides of the ball. Tyronne Igie was the starting running back and had a great game as the tailback in the I – formation. Other Rebel starters included John Moore and Dexter Bello at Defensive Tackle and Defensive End respectively, Jordan McPherson at Linebacker, Duray Gardner at Receiver, Arnold De La Cruz at Offensive Tackle, and Brandon Sullivan at Slot Receiver.
McPherson looked like a young Lawrence Taylor stopping several plays in the backfield, and making several big stops during the game. Jordan had 4 solo tackles, as well as a strip to cause a fumble during the game.
Kaliph Daley, Neville Bryant, and Khalil Lewis were among other Rebel All Stars that received significant playing time and contributed to a great effort.
Dexter Bello – making a touchdown saving tackle late in the game, earned the Most Valuable Player Award for his defensive prowess. Dexter will receive his award at the Rebel Banquet in March.
Coach Ray Baxter stated he was very proud of his players. “They all contributed to a good productive effort, and had fun today. That’s all I can ask. Now we look forward to 2008.”
Nice job Rebels…
