In another off-season move, Executive Director Baxter names Coach Dennis O’Neil Director of Football Operations.

O’Neil will take on many of the football related duties of the program including Coaches education, on-field preperation, and practice routines, and player development.

Congratulate Coach O’Neil when you see him on the NY Spartan sidelines this spring, during the Gridiron Elite Tournament. Don’t worry though, although his duties within the Elite has grown, he will remain the Offensive Coordinator of the Intermediate Division. On to another title!!!

Super Prep Division seeks new Defensive Coordinator

In today’s world, the only constant is change. And change has always kept the Rebels on top. Unfortunately, change also comes at a price. And the Super Prep division takes a big loss, as it’s Defensive Coordinator, Coach Kevin Pryor, steps down.

“”Coach Kev” has been @ the focal point of our success for years, and i’ll miss him on the sidelines” says Coach Baxter, Super Prep Division HC. Pryor will now serve as a defensive consultant for the Program, assisting the younger divisions as new coaching talent emerges.

Coach Pryor began with the Rebels as the Defensive Coordinator of the Intermediate program – going 0-10 in his first season. As time progressed, he went on to coach in numerous playoff and championship games with the Jr. Pro division, having his best season in 2006 when the Jr. Pros went to the national title game of the Jr. East Coach Football Spring League, and the East Coast Football League semi-finals, with only 80 points scored on the team in both spring and fall seasons.

The classic match-ups the Rebels had with the NYC Gators, the East Coast Knights, Cumberland, and Vineland Jr. Mastedons are just some of the memories that Coach Pryor takes with him.

The search begins for a new DC, and Coach Baxter will start from within the organization. There are several choices that will be examined within the next few weeks. “I expect to have the new DC in place prior to the beginning of spring practice” says Baxter. “We may tweak a few things defensively, but the aggressive style that Pryor brought to the program will be used as we face new the new challenges that 2009 will provide.
