Gridiron Elite Preview – Bronx Kings @ Bronx Rebels
July 26, 2009 by admin
The Gridiron Elite Youth Football League picked up some steam with it’s first taste of action this weekend, as the newly formed Bronx Kings traveled on the #2 train to face the Rebels @ Gridiron Elite Stadium this past Saturday.
“I knew the Kings would be a good addition for the Elite, and I was more impressed when I walked into our field and their kids were there before their coaches”, said Coach Mike Blake – Pee Wee Rebels Head Coach. “They definately came to play, so we’ll get a nice preview of both programs” said Coach Ray Baxter, ED of the Rebels and President of the Gridiron Elite Youth Football League.
Neither team disappointed, as the scoring was fast and furious. Since this was a passing scrimmage, QB and Receiver play was paramount. With rookies all over the field for the Rebel squads, the coaches were anxious to see what the past two months of practice has produced.
The coaches were impressed with many of the kids on the field for both teams, but the Rebel Pee Wees get a special nod, as they were scoring on both sides of the ball.
“We’ve decided not to mention any names specifically, just a note to all the kids in the program that the Coaches were proud of them, and we need more effort like that all the time” said Coach Dennis O’Neal, Rebels Director of Football.
Baxter did state he was disappointed with some of the kids that did not show for the Rebels, as many were either working or on summer vacation. “I hope they realize that with August 1st being next week, that time is not on our side. We play Division 1 talent opening day, and they are not even in shape.” The Super Prep Rebels open their season against Wyoming Seminary, ranked # 3 for Prep Schools in the country by the Max Prep website. Baxter has stepped up the level of talent he is recruiting for the Prep Program. “I am glad to see the rookies and our QB get some needed work.” QB Jeff Hunter is expected to open for the Rebels @ Quarterback this season.
On the Intro and Pee Wee level, both teams open against the Brooklyn Wolverines – who beat the Pee Wees and nearly upset the Intrermediates last season.
“Time to step it up” said Coach O’Neal… Enough said.
Special thanks to Coach Carol Alston and Coach Anthony who were responsible for bringing their program, the Bronx Kings to Gridiron Elite Stadium. Expected are big things from the Kings. Their program will be highlighted again on this site, as they are the opening home game for the Rebels – September 19th – Pee Wees @ 3pm – Intros @ 5pm and Super Prep @ 7pm.
Practice for the Rebels is every Tuesday Thursday @ 6pm and Saturday’s @ 10am for the Pee Wees and Intros – and every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday @ 8 pm and Saturday’s @ Noon for the Super Prep team. Call 347-968-8420 for more information, or emal us @ bronxrebelsfb@aol.com.

Championship Bound Rebels, tell the world WE’RE BACK!!!!!
This is Coach Blake, let me say how proud I am of all the players who came out for spring football. I know it has been raining a lot. However, in spite of the weather you showed the coaching staff real heart and team player effort while working hard to be the best.
Last year, we had a taste of a victory and loses. I like winning better! Last year, you were boys this year you are young men. Tell, text or call all your teammates who have no access to a computer and tell them Coach Blake said:
Back to Work, Championship bound STARTS NOW!
I’m excited about this coming season, if we continue to work hard in school and practice we’re going to have a great season. Most of last year’s players are coming back for their final year at the pee wee level. So let’s send them off with a championship ring!
This year, we are Student/Athletes at the highest level. The team will get assignments also called homework. For as a team we must share the same Vision. Complete your assignments on time in school and practice. The word is the Bronx Rebel Pee Wees are the team to beat this year and the whole league is gunning for us. It is time for us to focus on the same vision and the same plan. So please put away the play station, stop staying up late at night and sleeping late getting chubby.
Back to Work, Championship bound STARTS NOW!
1. Assignment, Starting July 21 all Rebels must attend practice at 6 pm with your helmets white T-shirt, cleats and mouth piece. If any player forgets any items listed they will miss some playing time. Tell your teammates too.

Greetings, My name is Jared Blake, I am currently attending St. Thomas Aquinas College in hopes of earning a B.A. as a Broadcast Journalist. Sports is my love from Basketball to Pro Paint balling but there’s no sport quite like football, I feel that even if I wasn’t meant to play any sport professionally at least I can make a career writing and sharing by thoughts about them. But before I attempt to run Steven A. Smith out of a job I want to contribute to the program that put me in the position I am to do so.
I’ve been a member of the Bronx Rebels since 04 as a Defensive Tackle/Center and during my tenure as a player I’ve seen the good and the not so good, from 0 win seasons to championship games out of state. I remember times when I used to wonder when we would actually win a game but looking back I realize it’s those losses that build the determination to succeed. The coaching staff, my teammates and the constructive environment in which we’ve played, helped mold the young man I am today, I honestly couldn’t tell you where I would be or what I would be doing if I never decided to sign up and strap up.
In life, especially as a teenager we are presented with paths, obstacles, and opportunities both positive and negative that shape who we become as adults. Wearing a Rebel jersey is to Rebel against the obstacles today’s society presents us with by keeping our players off the street and out of trouble. Becoming a member of this team allows you to focus on a worthwhile opportunity to build friendships and gain skills conducive for success on and off the field.

It is not everyday that bronxrebels.org has the opportunity and distinct honor to introduce a future writer. This young man became a Rebel in 2004 , and has gone on to become quite an impressive individual. He has absolutely no idea of how proud of him we are, not only with continuing his education, but his pursuit of journalism as well.
Jared’s Dad is Coach Mike Blake, Head Coach of the Pee Wee Division.
Jared will not only post here, but provide color commentary during all Rebel home games in 2009, and beyond.
Jared will have his own category here on our website, named Jared’s Corner. It will feature articles written by him, to express his viewpoint not only of Rebel Football, but of sports as it applies to life.
Mike Lupica, i’d watch my job if I were you…
It is the distinct pleasure of bronxrebels.org to introduce to all of you, Rebel Alumn, Jared Blake. His 1st article now appears in Jared’s Corner.
