DEXTER BELLO – REBEL PRIDE PERSONNIFIED

If you want to know what Rebel Pride is about, look no further than #6 for the Super Prep Rebels, Dexter Bello. Dexter is the longest tennured Rebel, having played for the program for six seasons.  As this is Dex’s last season as a Rebel, we felt it was time to spotlight him and some of his accomplishments.

When Dexter arrived on the scene, the Rebels were playing home games @ Bronx Park East. Only knowing he liked football, and he wanted to hit people, Dexter became a linemen, but was disappointed he had to move to the Intermediate Division due his age and size.

Dexter has always been a gentlemen, and a professional about his craft. He participated in off season workouts, and went to speed classes, participated in lifting sessions, all to get better as a ballplayer. His determination payed big dividends, as Dexter was not only moved from the interior defensive line to defensive end, but to fullback as well. Bello partnered with fellow defensive end Jordan McPherson and became the best pair of ends outside of the PSAL, and beyond. All teams the played the Rebels had now to fear not one, but two pass rushing specialists.  Bello’s prowess also developed on the offensive side of the ball as well, as he was the second leading rusher in 2007, rushing for over 700 yards on 53 carries.

FB DEXTER BELLO ON THE MOVE TO A TOUCHDOWN DURING THE PLAYOFFS

Dexter has witnessed the rise of this program, helping the development of the Bronx Rebels brand. He is a big reason for our success. This season, he has now been moved from the fullback position, to starting Quarterback, and will lead the Rebels the rest of the way. Can he lead the Rebels to a Championship? To be continued…..

Big Win over Morrisania Invaders 32-6

The Super Prep Rebels came back focused and immediately pounced on the Invaders. Led by # 6 Dexter Bello @ Quarterback, the Rebels scored on the opening drive, and dominated for most of the game.

Rebel scores were numerous, as Bello threw two touchdown passes, the ground attack accounted for two scores, and special teams accounted for the final, as rookie Greg Terry provided a sensational punt return for a touchdown.

Chavaar Warren # 1, made an electifying catch in the endzone. Warren, who was a third string receiver last season, has returned with a vengence this year and is now the leading receiver in the Rebels offense.  Leading rusher Jeremiah Sanchez was hampered with a shoulder injury, and did not play much in this contest. This led the way for Jordan Apolinario, who rushed for 60 yards on 5 carries. Jordan also plays Noseguard (yes, I said noseguard) and he led all tacklers with 7 solo tackles.

Other notables with Elvis Castro with two interceptions, and Fullback Manny DeJesus, with steady runs from the fullback position, also leading the Rebels attack styled defense.

Up next for the Rebels, the Harlem Jets.  Gametime is Saturday night – 5pm @ Evander Childs High School Field.

IT IS THE DIRECTIVE OF THIS ORGANIZATION, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PARENTS AND CHILDREN THAT WISH TO PLAY REBEL FOOTBALL, THAT WE ARE OFFICIALLY NOT FIELDING A TEAM IN THE INTERMEDIATE DIVISION UNTIL SPRING OF 2010. WE ARE NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF HURTING KIDS, OR PLAYING ATHLETES UNTIL THEY ARE READY TO TAKE THE FIELD BOTH IN TOP MENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITION. WE WILL NOT RUSH TO PLACE A TEAM ON THE FIELD JUST TO “DEFEND A TITLE”. IT IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE KIDS, PARENTS, OR THIS PROGRAM. THOSE CHILDREN THAT HAVE THE ABILITY TO MOVE UP HAVE BEEN  PLACED ON THE SUPER PREP ROSTER AND WILL BE RECEIVING UNIFORMS NEXT WEEK TO PARTICIPATE IN THE REMAINING SEASON GAMES. THOSE THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PLACED ON THE SUPER PREP ROSTER, WILL REMAIN ON THE INTRO PRACTICE SQUAD, UNTIL WE FIELD IN THE JR EAST COAST FOOTBALL SPRING LEAGUE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, AND CONFUSION, BUT THE SAFETY OF THE KIDS IN THE PROGRAM IS PARAMOUNT.

SUPER PREP DEALT A TOUGH LOSS, AND A SEVERE BLOW FOR THE SEASON

Rebels Super Prep played a very tough and emotional game against a physically superior opponent. But HEART, not strength, was the factor in this competition. CLASS

The team lost the game, 39-0. Although we lost, the team gained strides with heart tonight.  The first quarter was highlighted by the speed of the CDFL as they hit the corner and outran the entire Rebel defense for their first score. The defense  stiffened as the quarter ended, holding the CDFL juggarnaut to only three points.

With missed tackles and opportunities, the CDFL then scored 23 unanswered points in the second quarter. Our kids had no answer as we were outplayed at the line of scrimmage.   In addition, quarterback Jeff Hunter went down hard, and the Rebels turned to Yinessa Jackson who last took a snap in the win in Maryland, but threw two 45 yard interceptions.

Jackson may not have led the team to victory, but did go  provide a much needed spark in the   3rd and 4th quarter. Completing passes to Chavaar Warren, handing off the ball to Marcus Signeous, Dexter Bello,  and Jeremiah Sanchez. Signeous had the longest run of the game, as he exploded for 65 yards bringing the offense to the CDFL 30 yard line, but could not seal the deal with a touchdown.  Signeous finished with 87 yards on 7 carries.  Running Back Jeremiah Sanchez continues to impress on both sides of the ball, as he finished 47 yards on 12 carries, but with major defensive plays including 3 solo tackles.

BAXTERTALKSTODEFENSE

This game was highlighted by several players, but I would be remissed if I did not mention Darnell Wheeler, who was all over the field defensively. Our defense feeds on his emotional play, and Darnell was a monster for three quarters. The Rebel defense held the CDFL to one score for the second half. Also honorable mention to Hank Edwards, who had a strip and fumble recovery. At 16 years old, Hank not only beat players who were older, but with more experience. He is a young warrior, unafraid. A solid addition to our program.

REBELDEFENSETRAPSCDFLRUNNER

Our loss was of Co-Captain Jeff Hunter, as Jeff suffered ligament damage in the second quarter. We may have lost Jeff for the season, but his heart will remain a factor as we compete for a championship
