Very few teams can get enough years under their belt to have an alumni network.  The Bronx Rebels, in 21 years of football and mentoring hae touched the lives of countless young men and women.  Many of those players who have donned the colors of the Rebels have gone on to do some pretty impressive things both on and off the field.  One player who has continued in the Gridiron Elite pipeline and to much success is Reuben Kearse.  The alumn of the Rebel program has made quite a name for himself on the Minor League level.  Since graduating the Rebel program, Kearse has starred for the Hudson Valley Cowboys for a number of years until making his way back to Gridiron Elite Stadium as one of the original members of the New York Spartans.  This past year he was the offensive player of the year for the Spartans and played extraordinarily well in the Spring Classic which raised much appreciated money for the program that he graduated from.

Gridiron Elite Brother Spartans Invite Rebels To “Career Combine”

careercombinesmall

The Spartans are committed to success both on and off the field.  With the season at its conclusion, there is even more opportunity to work with the team in their pursuits off the field.  Today the Spartans announced their first “Career Combine” which they will host at their meeting facility on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx.  Besides attending a general seminar that will include resume writing, interviewing skills, and transcript evaluation, the players will be able to get personal attention to their particular needs whether it be career or education based.  At 11am on January 16th, the Spartans will be spending the afternoon with current and former players for anyone who is need of assistance.  “It’s always a good feeling when a young man gets a job to support himself and family, or lives a dream that he had in attending college.  But when that dream is realized with the help of the organization or fellow player, it’s even more heart warming” saud Coach Patterson.  “As a staff acorss the board we have highly educated and extraordinarily bright people who have talents that they can put to great use off the football field.  We are trying to use that to create a network of people in education and in the professional world for guys that are  motivated and will represent the program well.”

For headhunters, companies, or schools that would like to attend and donate their time and wisdom we would love to host you.  Please send an email to NewYorkSpartans@yahoo.com with your name and company/school information and we will add you to the itinerary.

Players that are attending please fill out the questionaire on the Spartan website to register for this event.  This is so we may assist you in the best way possible.  This event is also open for any Gridiron Elite Affilliate player as well.

REBELS ARE PEE WEE CHAMPIONS!!! 10 – 1

BRONX REBELS PEE WEES ARE GRIDIRON ELITE YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS FOR 2009.

In 2008 – at Brooklyn’s Boys and Girls High School -  the Pee Wee Rebels were one play away from advancing to the first ever Gridiron Elite Youth Football League Championship. The Rebels lost by one touchdown in a overtime thriller. Executive Director Ray Baxter and Pee Wee HC Mike Blake were both determined to not let that happen again. The plans were set into motion in January 2009 to make significant changes in Pee Wee operations to overtake the Brooklyn Wolfpack and win the Championship.

This task began with the formation of the coaching staff.  Coaches  O’Neal, Churchill, and Davis were committed to the Intermediates, having won the  championship  only last season. As fate would allow, the Intermediates did not field, which allowed Coach Baxter to merge the staffs of the Intermediates and the Pee Wees.  While Coach Blake remained the HC, O’Neal became the Offensive Coordinator and Davis became the Defensive Coordinator.  Churchill assisted with line duties. This task was not minimized, as it was his job to assemble an offensive line to block for Shawn Tafe, the Rebels returning Quarterback.

2008 MVP Malik Wilder returned, but a new cast of talent surrounded him. No longer could opposing defenses line up to stop 141 sweep – with the addition of Royale Jamison and Mykal Rasheed – the the vaunted Pee Wee running attack which haunted opposing defenses in 2008, was now stronger, faster and simply better. But that was only the beginning.

O’Neal was able to now add onto the base offense the Pee Wee’s were taught in 2008, and open a significant passing game.  The Rebel defense held opponents to shut out scores, often replicating the play of their older brothers, the Super Prep team – which lead to Rebel domination over other programs  the Rebels faced. Opposing coaches actually feared the Pee Wee Rebels, knowing their team actually had no chance to win. This was no more evident than in the Championship game – in which the Rebels faced their arch-rivals from across the bridge – the defending Champions – the Brooklyn Wolfpack.

As the Rebels took the field, the Wolfpack actually thought they had a chance. They pounded their fullback and tried to command the game with punishing runs. But the Rebels would not be denied, as speed and F.B.I. (football intelligence – the fastest way to the endzone is  – KNOWLEDGE ) ruled the day. After a commanding performance on all sides of the ball, the Rebels were crowned Champions. A season fulfilled – a dream not denied. In the words of a Rebel player – “this is what we do!!”

Job well done to all players and coaches.

In what was considered by many to be the best game of the entire season, the Jets of Harlem defeated the Rebels in Gridiron Elite Super Prep Play. Game details can be read at gridironelite.org.

The Jets faced the East Coast Knights for the Super Prep title, but were defeated by the Knights 26-14.

Congratulations to the East Coast Knights – Gridiron Elite Super Prep Champions.

As for 2010, many things are to be decided, including the identity of the new Rebels Super Prep Coach, as well as who will lead the Rebels program.  An interview with Coach Ray Baxter will be posted here soon, with detailed answers as to the future of the Bronx Rebels…

Stay tuned!!!
